Return to blogging…. And La maison en petits cubes or Tsumiki No ie

Hey, I’m sorry for the lack of content for the last two week but it was because the blog started off as a project and it was sent away for marking, so I had to leave until a good length of time so they wouldn’t believe that I have created content after the deadline. But anyways I am back reviewing animation so again if there is anything you would like me to look into, feel free to recommend me them.

To start back I found La maison en petits cubes which is a hauntingly beautiful short about an elderly man and his reflect on the life his has lead by looking at his water flooded house, this Japanese creation made in 2008, yeah I couldn’t believe that it has been out so long and not found it. Well this is a great short winner a few award, even won an oscar, for the splender of the artwork but also for the can’t really think of the story being anything but hauntingly soulful, so the actual short.

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan or if you are Japanese, or whether you read the manga and are focused more of that you’ll know it as Shingeki no Kyojin which translate literally to Advancing Giants, which doesn’t really sound as good as Attack on Titan. So apart from the name changes, this is a new anime series which has only got four episodes as writing this since the fifth will be coming out later on in the weekend.

This anime depicts the story of Eren Jeager who’s world we are thrown into is besieged by these Titans or Giants which have destroyed a vast majority of the human population, whose last refuge is a walled state. This state lives in constant fear of attack from the giant who they believe cannot enter in with the wall protecting however after the first episode this become false and the city then get attacking leading into the whole plot of show.

Out of the anime which have been released this spring in the typical fashion of anime season, this and another Suisei no Gargantia – Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, which I will be reviewing later in the their season or I might just wait until the end of the season. So back on with this anime, it does demonstrate quite a broad example of character design and character dealing with huge problems, for example within the first couple of episode  just a warning a spoiler is coming well only a bit of a spolier. Well his life is literally flip upside down with the death of his mother in front of his eye, which creates his passion which lead many characters to their deaths but also make him so determined on his task of killing all the titans.

Now onto the reviewing this will be an initial review since I have no clue what will transpire later on. I have read some of manga so I have only a tiny portion of what to come but I suspect after the next couple of episodes I will be with everyone who has not read it, although we typical anime I’m suspecting that it will be changed from the manga as per. Oh yeah the actual review erm 6.5 -10 it is good but I don’t want to put to high incase I get let down further in the series. So whats your opinion do you like or if you haven’t seen do you think you will watch it.

More Adventure Time Reviewing

Adventure Time

Adventure Time

So I’ve decided to review more of Adventure Time and this time I’m looking more at the gender swap episodes which they have done recently with the creation of two episodes of Cake and Fiona instead of Jake and Finn. These episodes are mostly the creation of the Ice King fan-fiction of reality so it is not cannon at all. However these episodes do go into depth of the what if questions and also sets up ships it self, since as stated it is Ice King’s fantasy so his ships are what the relations are like. And if you are like wondering what shipping is, well it is where you think to character or people, but you shouldn’t really do it to people just saying.

So apart from these episodes have the characters being the opposite it also hints at strong women, since the characters in these are female who, so far, are portrayed at being strong while the manare more feminin especially the Prince Gumball who is only shown baking and being in the kitchen. While Marshal-lee is also shown being emotional which is not typical of his alter ego Marceline.

So the rating is going to be the same as the other review which I have already done for Adventure Time well even though it is a different aspect of the show the gender swap it is the same program. Rambling a bit here I think, so what your thoughts about the whole show and this particular set of episodes., or if you would like to voice any opinions about the show it would be fantastic.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic – End of season 1

Magi the Labyrinth of Magic

Magi the Labyrinth of Magic

Well following on from the other blog I did about this anime, which I did half way through its first season, I decided to talk about it again after it has finished which has been for a while about a month my guess. So the season finishes in a way which is pretty happy given the situation that Alibaba is no longer being controlled on in the dark djinn form, as well as Sinbad’s country been saved.

So pretty typical ending for an anime, however this is were i draw faults with the later half and pretty much most of the season since the difference between the anime and manga differs hugley and some parts are nessacry for the story. Where to start, I wonder well if you don’t read the manga I would recommend it, since I think that it is far better than the anime, so the difference the main being the whole Alibaba turning into a dark djinn by cursing his fate never happen in the manga. Plus the attack on Sinbad’s country didn’t and the way in which Hakuryuu loses happen also differ, to the point of annoyance to me. It like where in book that have been turned into film and they change some major plot devices for no apparent reason or just change how character are brought into the story. Eurgh its just annoys me so much, sorry about that rant but it erks me when that happens.

But enough about the bad parts which I didn’t enjoy about the anime, the rest of the aspects of the anime are to good standar, I cannot really comment of the voice acting since I watch the Subbed version of these so its hard for me to know whether they are doing a good standard or not to a nth degree. But the animation was good, the quality of the background and the fighting aspect was great, and the character design followed closely with the manga so was good.

So rating of the anime, hmm I guess it will be 7 – 10 since it is a good anime however I wouldn’t call it genre defining or a highly remembered one, which is a shame however I don’t find it as good as other animes which have came out recently  So thats my opinion what is yours if you seen and agree or disagree comment below and if you want me to review something else or what to recommend me something to watch comment as well.

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty

One of the most remembered of Disney’s Classic since the story is one of Disney’s Princess story concerning Auror and her dear Prince Philip in their quest in typical Disney style of True love. And during the quest they have to battle against the evil witch to save the kingdom and each other, well mostly Philip battling while Auror is lay sleeping in the tower above.

However straight of the bat the film brings in the connotations of what women should be like, since they offer the Princess, Beauty and then Song to sing, no notion what so ever is mention about giving the girl intelligence. And then the curse which is given to the character is that the child will prick her finger on a spinning wheel, which is used for mending clothes and the making of clothes. However the portrayal of the 3 faires and Malfeasant who offer a much differ portrayal With one faires being a foul cook unable to work out the most basic concepts in the kitchen, and then the other being unable to make a dress without the aid of magic. Further the idea of gender is argued with the colouring of the dress created for the Princess with one fairy choosing pink and the other fairy choosing it to be Blue.

Yet the most interesting character in the film is villain Malfeasant in the film, who if you are not aware of is getting her own movie and I can clearly see why, since in the beginning of the film she does not get invite to the showing of the Royal baby to the rest of the aristocrats. She invokes her wrath of being alienated from the rest of the country, which is different from other Disney villains who are all self obsessed.

Throughout the watching of the film character from future films come to mind quite often and not just the design, since most of the animals design are reused in the like of Sword in the Stone, and even Winnie the Pooh, could be argued since the owl shown in the forest scene seem to be just a smaller version of Owl. But the character which is the most striking is Philip’s horse who seem to be the spiting image of the horse in ‘Tangled’ who is very hot headed and not one to follow order, with Philip’s having to be guised into following the music.

Opinions well I’m going to give the film a 6.5 – 10 since it is a great film however I personally do not enjoy the film as much as I enjoy other Disney classic.

Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone

Evangelion: 1.11

Evangelion: 1.11

This anime film being more of a series of the original episode of the anime ‘Neon Genesis Evangelion’ with the animation and the drawing being refreshed to suit the market of Blu Rays and HD television, with some parts of the show being cut down to make the what would be 2+ hours of content instead being a 90+ minute film.

So the actual elements of the film being the same fantastic story line of the original series minus some of the slower and less relevant aspects, further with the update animation of the film makes it perhaps one of the greatest film I’ve seen so far. To elaborate more on this the anime series before with the older styling of outdated and cruder animation, I stilled love with it being one of the first anime series which I watched all the way through, so the movie just made me fall harder for it now. The version of this film I watched was the 1.1 version which has some slight differences mainly a 3 minute extra animation at the start of the film, which was more of the original animation so it wasn’t
bad at all.

Ooh I’ve forgot to mention the plot well it tells the story of Shinji a complex character whose mental disorder and the degrading of his mental capacity stimulates much of the film and the other films as well, there being a few 4+. Further I should mention that he is a pilot or a chosen few who pilot these mechas called Evagelion or Eva for short who must fight and destroy the angle who are attempting to bring upon the end of the world via the third impact more of the plot is discussed within the film so if you are interested in the films and have yet to watch you should.

So my opinion of the film it’s got to be a 10 – 10 it’s got loads of get sequence the plot being one of the great masterpiece of Japanese story telling in my opinion, it even feature the evil fan service which some anime take too far how this does it tastefully in some scenes. So what’s your thought of the film, do you agree with be or not feel free to comment below.

The Croods

The Croods

The Croods

The newest Dreamworks’ film to be released, which is about a family of cave dwellers and especially Eep the eldest daughter of the family of 6 Grug (The Dad), Ugga (The Mum), Gran (The Grandmother), Clunk (The son), and Sandy (youngest daughter). And there journey to survive the evolutionary theory of the survival of the fittest, from the early parts of the film it shows them being the typical idea of cave people being primitive even with hunting techniques and idea of survival with them stealing an egg for food, and hiding in a cave to escape from the predator and the dark which they are all scared off. However they are also frightened of curiosity, with Grug telling stories how those who are curious will die. Yet Eep the main protagonist, this gets switch over to Grug half way through the film but thats another part of the film’s charm and another story, has this curious nature which here whole family, at this time which they are lacking to survive. Then a huge catastrophe occurs “dun dun dun” quote from Belt, the like mascot of the film, which cause the Croods to change their beliefs and trust in an outsider with his curiosity and his way of thinking.

So well with other Dreamwork films the animation is to a certain style and finish which is exceptional good for their target market of children and family, the humor fits both of these roles as well with a mixture of funny puns and slap stick comedy . However some of the aspect of the film which are for the children kinda of annoyed me, some of the prehistorical animals who were completely designed for merchandise, apart from belt who is like the mascot, is the tiger cause he has stubby little legs perfect design for soft toys for which just kinda of annoyed a tiny bit since they deemed to aim it towards the market and making the animal incredibly cute.

So overall rating I would give it a 8 – 10 mainly because of the toys design being far to influential in the design of the characters, as well as the some bits where a kinda but predictable in the film, with being told off when I counted down the part of the film when the family got reunited. However the rest of the film does fantastic for the genre and the whole ideas of families and changing for the better.

Young Justice season 1

Young Justice

Young Justice

For all those DC fans out there this is a great attempt at a DC series focusing on the younger heroes or sidekicks as people like to call them, it also further expands the universe showing off more characters, even though the story might be incorrect it expands the universe to those new to the series. This not being the first attempt of this, since Cartoon Network has also shown the Teen Titans, what like 10 years no cannot be that long, personally I prefer this to Teen Titans well that is since Dick is so much cooler in this, if you didn’t know that is the first Robin, and you get kid flash, plus other super heroes as well.

So the going onto the actual season, this being the first shows the team being built with the younger heroes/sidekicks who believe that they should have more responsibility that what is currently given to, while being refuse enter into the Justice League which is a team like institute for the main superheroes where when 1 hero is not sufficient and are needing more help or when the world is in danger and every hero is needed. This season follows the original a team, which is different from what appears in the comics, however this team is made up of Robin, Kid Flash, Aqua Lad, Artemis (who states is Green Arrow niece but really is not) and Miss Martian ooh and Superlad who’s adventure kinda starts the whole season. The first season sees the team battling the light which is a group of super villains which defeats the Justice League, and then world is needing them to save them, and so forth like a typical DC story line. However this season sets up for more fun in the next season which is hugely better, if hugely is a word.

Well rating this season would be a 6.5 – 10 since there are some great lines and so forth however I do not know it just does not feel as good, maybe since this season is all about establishing the content which was being built up for the next season while adding dynamic to the characters which only have just been introduce.

So that my opinion how about do you agree or did you think that the show did need to be cancelled cause it was so bad or that it did not follow the story line, feel free to comment below, and just so you know I will be reviewing the second season as well.

Porco Rosso

Porco Rosso

Porco Rosso

The first of Studio Ghibli which I will be looking at, not my favourite one to start with, however it is one which does represent all the typical values of the company and the director himself Hayao Miyazaki. Since the film has elements of fantasy and magic, a man being turned into a pig and is flying a plane, cannot think of something more unrealistic apart from others of their movie. Then the concept of aviation playing a huge part in the film, with it all being about a pig flying a plane, this theme come from Miyazaki himself who love planes, which can also be seen in his other films where flying is portrayed, e.g. ‘Laputa: Castle in the sky’, ‘Nausciaä of the Valley of the Wind’.

So getting onto the film and not the backstory, the film centers around pig, well he was a man before getting cursed, who is a pilot and bounty hunter taking on air pirates, which like any of his film aren’t really that bad and make up most of the humour with slap stick actions of hitting each and fighting over trivial matter, like near the end with the photograph one pirates hits all the other so that the photo is just of him and the girl. These slap stick elements provide some light hearted moments to stagnant the drama of the fierce aerial combat between the pig and other pilots. The slap stick is situation throughout the film, even the final battle ends up becoming a comical slap stick battle when the two run out of ammo. I really should have a spolier warning in some of these reviews, but if you haven’t seen it, you probably should but I’m guessing majority of you who are reading have already seen the film.

Ohh so rating erm, not favourite film of Studio Ghibli but erm, will give it a 7 – 10, since it is a really entertaining film, with plenty of comedic elements, however just doesn’t really float my boat, maybe because it is a bit too different from what I like about their films. Since the main female role is not sufficient to cope with the pig leading role.

Soo that my two pence worth, if you agree or what comment below.
