Jack-Jack Attack

The short which fitted in with pixar’s ‘The Incredibles’, this piece is set along side the main part of the film, where the incredible family go on their quest to save their Father Mr Incredible, and while they are away they hire a babysitter to look after the baby Jack-Jack.  During this short the babysitter get attacked and traumatized by the innocent child, who is starting to use his power.

The short films flows easily and is tied with the film in a very cute mannerism by the use of the phone calls of the babysitter to coincide with the  story of the actual film, with the phone calls all being left on the voicemail, which are actually shown in the short. This would create the idea that the director of ‘The Incredibles’ would have wanted the short to actually go in the movie, which would break down the narrative structure of the piece while leaving it as a short would make it more suitable. Yet this concept of the animation may have contribute to the actual the feature then was cut away; brings up the ideas that this short which becomes a crucial plot element at the end since this is what eventually saves the day from more destruction than what has already occurred.

Since the animation is pixar as well as being made coinciding with the production of the feature than it fits perfectly with the film, as well as the key connotation of the pixar’s idea of the notion of a typical lifestyle spruced up with super powers.

So I give this short a 8 – 10, the tie in with film is very nice, however even though the feature would have been broken up, I would have preferred it if the short was in some way incorporated into the film.
